In this debut collection, Jack Lavallee searches for purpose in the urban landscape of the American Southwest. Lavallee’s humorous mishaps in New Mexico's bars, strip clubs and casinos occur in that twilight time between last call and closing when people dance the dance that makes lovers friends and friends lovers.
In the title story "Albuquerque Blues", Jack faces choices in love over a girl who seems right socially and the one who is actually right. When he finally chooses, it's already too late. In “Rejection”, Pablo, a punk-rock guitarist encounters adversaries from his past that return to destroy his life and kill his girlfriend.
The two plays in the book are “One Deck Shoe”, a short comedy about love and Indian Gaming, and “Anniversary”, a short play examining the lives of a cast of young characters working in a bar in Albuquerque.
